Food Waste Management In Commercial Enterprises.
Food waste management is a critical aspect of our ethos, especially in commercial settings like restaurants and hotels. The hospitality industry significantly contributes to food waste, and this is where effective waste management becomes pivotal.
In restaurants and hotels, managing food waste isn’t just about reducing environmental impact; it’s also about optimizing resources, cutting costs, and fostering a positive brand image. The sheer volume of food waste generated can be staggering, but with the right systems in place, it can be transformed into a valuable resource.
Enter the Bokashi Bran Food Waste Management System. This innovative system stands out for its efficiency and environmental friendliness. It utilises the power of fermentation to break down organic waste rapidly.
“When food is wasted, all the resources that went into producing it are also wasted.”
Tristram Stuart
Benefits of Bokashi Bran Food Waste Management System:
1. Efficiency: The Bokashi system accelerates the decomposition of organic matter, converting it into nutrient-rich compost within weeks rather than months.
2. Odour Control: Unlike traditional composting, Bokashi fermentation minimizes foul odours, making it ideal for commercial settings where maintaining a pleasant environment is crucial.
3. Space-Saving: The system is compact and doesn’t require extensive space, making it feasible even in bustling restaurant kitchens or hotel back areas.
4. Nutrient-Rich Compost: The resulting compost is high in nutrients, perfect for enriching soil in gardens or for landscaping, creating a closed-loop system for organic waste.
5. Reduced Waste Disposal Costs: By diverting waste from landfills, businesses can save significantly on waste disposal expenses.
6. Sustainable Image: Implementing such an eco-friendly system helps businesses cultivate a sustainable image, appealing to environmentally conscious consumers and stakeholders.
The Bokashi Story
Bokashi was created by Japanese professor, Dr Teruo Higa in the early 80s under the “EM” trademark (Effective Microorganisms). EM is the best- known form of bokashi worldwide, reaching over 130 countries.
Dr Higa discovered EM unintentionally. He would usually collect several strains of microbes while conducting experiments and throw them in the same bucket. This concoction would the be disposed of down the drain. One day he thought this was a waste and sprinkled the microbes on patches of grass. The trick was using the right combination of microbes.
Today Bokashi Bran continues Dr Higas legacy by using this very technology from EMRO Japan.
Bokashi Bran is authentic bokashi, brewed traditionally.
It is the only bokashi in South Africa approved by EMRO and carries the unique authorisation number.
